Chip Colors

I started running a home game a few years ago that has grown into a monthly tournament of up to 30 players. When we started doing this, I didn't know anything and didn't know that there were generally accepted colors for chip denominations.

As I am thinking of advertising and bringing in more people - I was
wondering if it having non-standard colors is considered "bad etiquette". We use 10,000 chip games with Red as 100 and yellow as 500. We color up to Black 1000 and purple 5000.

The chips are labeled so it would be a hassle to change them and I have
enough to do 30 players with 60 chips each.

I'm just not sure if this sort of thing bothers anyone.

I guess no one had been to Vegas recently or was anal enough to object . I'll tell you the truth, I'd be somewhat bothered by it, but I live in California, visit Las Vegas regularly, and am a rules stickler. But if you intend to open it up to the public, you may want to consider buying new (and more) chips (esp. since you'll be having more players), going to a standard color scheme, and possibly standardizing to a T1000-2500 chip starting stack, with a more standard blind schedule. For myself, I get and use chips in standard Las Vegas colors.

But with all the different chip color schemes out there -- Vegas, Atlantic City, California casinos, California poker rooms, all the commemorative chips, Indian colors, foreign casinos, etc. -- I say . . .

"Use what you got" -- especially since they are labeled!

If somebody gets confused, shoot 'em to clean up the gene pool. If somebody gets offended, win all their money and kick 'em out broke. If somebody offers to buy thousands of new chips for you in the "right" colors, well you could take them up on that offer!

Just have fun, and make some money.

P.S. And don't even mention blue vs. white for $1 chips!
