Okay, Let me set the record straight. These Chinese chips are cheapo, not JUNKIE. I'm a chip collector, so I'm a little picky.

And I agree that they are totally adequate for any home game, and are particularly well-suited (no pun intended) for tournaments. They ARE junk in the sense that they have virutually no resale value. I DON'T think the 11.5 gram chips are worth the extra money--the 8.5 or 9.5 (more common) are just fine. Actually most casino chips are 9.5 grams, not 11.5. As a collector it bugs the living daylights out of me that case after case of these things clutter up the entire ebay site because they are listed as "casino chips" which they absolutely ARE NOT.

Finally, the 1000 chips for $100 deal mentioned above is absolutely the best thing going and it beats the heck out of waiting around to find out you got outbid. No auction will go that cheap, anyway, not for 1000 chips. The chips in that deal will disappoint no one in your home game or tournament. AND I have a couple tournaments a month and find that less than 1000 chips can be a big headache. 1000 chips, in five colors with 50 or 100 black and 50 purple will allow you to "color up" the players as the tourney goes on, thus keeping the counting and chip handling to a minimum and speeding up the game--just like in a real casino tourney.

Ps. Wouldn't a Chinese junk chip have a little picture of an oriental sailboat in the middle of it?

i have 200 white, 150 red, 50 black, 50 blue, 50 green. That
has been adequate for 9 people in a 40 dollar tourney, I
forget how we did it, but, the chips are ok. Most of those
chips are a clay composite, mainly for strength and durability.
Probably some plastic mixed in,, some old newspapers, some
rice, dog bones etc. They hold their own, and clean up well
when dumbass #2 spills his beer all over your table and his
chips. Casino chips are all kinds of wierd stuff to avoid
counterfieting, I think that may be why the common chip sold
on ebay is not more casino like, being that perfect weight
between 11.5 and 8.5, and having that baked clay feel.

I'd say yeah. Mindgame is right though. I bought 300 11.5 gram ones and I do really like them but after seeing some people getting 1000 8.5 ones for what I payed for 300, I probably should have gone that route. I did check my cards though tonight and there are no problems with them. Maybe I need to wait and see after a few nights of action but screw it, I can get a deck of Bicycles at the corner and be fine.

Don't forget that at 5stardeal.com some of the poker stuff is only in the online specials category. They have the 1000 chip texas holdem sets with 10 trays, 2 decks of cards plus a dealer button. The 9g super diamond (plain color) set goes for $100 or for $200 you can get the same set but with 11.5g striped dice chips. Both of these are great deals, they just don't have a case.

As far as cards go I wouldn't worry about the ones that come with the set at all. Instead, plan on spending a little more and buy some decks of Kem cards. Ok so they are kinda expensive but they are worth every penny in my opinion. I'm never using normal cards again. I got three individual decks (burgundy, green and blue) of poker-width super-index arrow-pattern cards. It was the best $40 I've ever spent on poker related stuff. I got them from this site because it was the cheapest I could find at only $10 a deck with $10 for shipping but they are available all over so you might be able to find a better deal (I also wanted the green and burgundy colors which most sites don't have).

I wasn't quoting you specifically, I was just getting the sense from some people, (yes probably including you) that these aren't good quality. My only point is that for 90% of us (i estimate) we're just looking for nice chips to play with at home, not collect and or resell - and for those purposes (as you say) they work great.

I didn't want you to think i was singleing you out.

But then you go ahead and call them junk yourself... SEE!
Just kidding... I'd love to see some of your chips. I'm sure you have a really nice collection.

Do you use them for home games (your good ones)? or do you just store them? Display? How do you keep them?

Postby TexasPoker » Sat Jan 24, 2004 11:10 pm GMT

Check out spinettis.com or there eBay ID is spinettis There web price is higher then if you get there phone# from eBay. I bought 650 SUTIED 11.5g for $150 with case 2 decks of cards your choice on chips and what cards the case is about $40 so that makes it about .17 per chip. They ship UPS Ground they can quote you shipping on the phone. They also take CC by phone. I should be getting my set at the end of this week I will post again. I also looked up there phone # 702.362.8767

Yeah they're perfectly fine for home games. Like I said, we played with 7.5 gram ones here for a while. When I got my 11.5 ones everyone liked the feel and all that but when it comes down to it, as long as you have enough chips to cover everyone, it doesn't really matter the weight.
