Chips

Postby jriley852000 » Wed Jan 14, 2004 8:15 pm GMT

Hey guys, do you know of any good sites on the net that I can get reasonably inexpensive, but quality clay poker chips? If possible, I would prefer they have values on the chips, ie. 5$, 10$, etc... Thanks :)

I believe others here have purchased from eBay relatively inexpensive...I have not yet.

In a day or two I'm going to make a big post about my experience with 5stardeal and their chips. Look for a post by me in a couple days :)

Hey jriley. There's a thread on the forum that covers clay chips and some places to buy them so give it a look. Main reason for post is for you Silencer. I can't wait a few days for your post about 5stardeal. I ordered 300 11.5 gram chips from them a couple of weeks ago and after a bit of a wait they came in. Of course they left out the dice that were supposed to come with them and had a few extra chips here and there but I got the chips so no real complaint. I've ordered 300 more and just wanted to know what to look out for if you had a problem.

Yeah saper. I tried ebay. After being out-bid with two seconds to go on FOUR different sets I finally said screw it and saw 5star was selling most of them so I went to their site and only paid about $15 more.

I bought some chips from 5stardeal.com (probably the same deal as you ballbp, because mine are supposed to come with dice and cards, and case). I purchased on the 6th of January. Credit card was charged. Great (i'm thinking they're on their way)...

...

...

January 14th rolls around. No package still.

I call them and ask about my order. They tell me that because my credit card was a Canadian one, they credited my card and cancelled my order.

I never heard a peep from them. I check my credit card online and it shows that on the 6th my order for $29.47 charged to my account. (at the time i had only purchased that much worth of stuff). I also see that because of the daily trade in US currency it cost me $38.87 CAN. No problemo...

On the 8th when they credited my card back the $29.47 US, the daily trade on the US dollar was 1.2524 (down from 1.3289 two days earlier). So my card was credited $36.91 in CAN money.

So i lost $1.96 because of their 'policy'. And they didn't even email me or call me to tell me that my order was cancelled.

Oh well. big deal 2 bucks. (A toonie). BUT What if I had purchased $15,000.00 worth of stuff??? Who would be liable for the loss I incurred?

Anyway, its a big stupid post and should probably be ignored.
I went back on with a US credit card yesterday and purchased the 300 chip deal they had for 99 bucks (and they happened to have a 10% off deal on a lot of things). They really look like the best prices on the web, even though i don't agree with their 'international credit card' policy, nor do I agree with their "NOTIFICATION" system...

PS I can't wait to get the chips. They look really nice, and from what i've heard from you guys/gals out there, they will be great.

i got my 11.5g chips from 5star as well, i didn't have ANY problems with them tho. i got all the chips, and a few extra, the cards, the dice, and the case. they're very nice and work well. after being outbid in the last seconds on 15+ auctions for dice or suited chips, i just went with a buy it now for solid color chips through 5star. i'm satisfied with my chips....i'd recommend them for sure.

Try www.viptrades.com. They have 8.5 gram clay chips for 10 cents each without denomination. That means you could get 1000 chips for $100. Check them out.

I got the package from 5stardeal.com on my second order (*finally*). They are sweet. I'm very impressed. I've heard elsewhere (and on this forum) some people note that these are junky Chinese chips, and are nothing like the real thing, but with nothing to compare it to (other than real casino chips) i find these to be quite adequete for home games. The quality feels great, the chip is heavy and anyone coming over for a home game would be impressed, as these are (or seem to be) of casino quality.

I got the 100 dollar deal (with 10% off coupon) plus $12 shipping, and it came out to $102.xx. The deal comes with a metalic case, 5 dice, 2 packs of cards, and 6 sleeves of 50 chips (2 white, 2 red, 1 green, 1 black). Just a great deal, and i'm really happy with it.

It also came with 1 red diamond 8.5 gram chip. I don't know why that was in there??? But i find it usefull for the "button" in my games.

Also, one gripe would be this: some of my cards in the packs that came with the deal seem to have arbitrary ink blots (like ink mistakes). Some have a type of dirty ink smudge on the face of the card, and some have them on the back of the cards. I would say about 10% of the cards have some type of blemish like this.

Did anyone else see this?

I'll have to take a closer look at the cards that came with the set to check for smudges but I also got an extra chip inside my case. I thought it was a mistake but now it's even stranger that you got an extra one too. My extra one was a 11.5 gram "suited" chip and the set I ordered were the 11.5 "diamond" chips.

faded like a mofo. already, the suits are faded, decent
chips, crappy cards.

My extra chip is considerably lighter than the others (i'm guessing at 8.5 grams). It is a red diamond cut chip. And my chips were dice chips.

The smudges and ink blots on my cards make them 100% useless. I already know (from playing just a couple hands) what a few cards are before seeing their faces. I had to revert (after about 3 hands) to using my older bicycle set -> which is fine.

Funny how they excel in some areas, (ie: perfect dice and chips) but fall terribly short in something as important as a deck of cards.

Mine were fine for about 2-3 months then slowly
started fading. The chips make up for the cheap
cards. I use a trumped Bellagio deck now anyway.
very cool.
