Clay vs. Composite Chips

I am currently shopping for new chips. Is the price for clay worth it over composite.

How different is it to play with real clay, vs. composite.

both ar 11.5 grams, but if i want clay, it is much more expensive

I received my composite chips about 2 weeks ago and absoloutley love them. I have played with them on sevearal occasions at various home games and they are a hit everywhere I go. I love the composite chips. However, I did go to a home game where a guy had just received his set of casino quality clay chips. And they were awesome. the texture is slightly different, but I know that I would never pay the extra money for the clay, my composite chips work just fine for me.

I'm pretty sure most "clay" chips are 10g

Standard "clay" chips are 9g. When you get to 11g, like mine , you got a metal core. Everyone that plays with them loves them but they ain't clay.

I just had a home tourney last night, 20 people. I have brand new 11.5 gram clay chips. They felt good to play with. I think they do have metal core, but none the less they were a hit with the group. I was asked to bring them to the next tourney at the other guys house.

Paid $80 delivered for 500 chips. Included was a alum. case, 2 decks of cards and six dice.

Because they are brand new I thought they were a little slick but the fellas all tell me in time with use they will wear nicely.

I meant "clay" as in clay or ceramic as opposed to composite resin or plastic.

There really isn't a defined "standard" for clay chips out there - they have a large variance in weight.

There are not really clay chips anymore. There are some floating around but the 2 categories are composite and PLASTIC. There is no way to get a clay chip to weigh more than 9 or 10 grams. Even the best ceramic composite chips weigh 10 grams. I really wish these companies would stop calling those 11.5g chips clay or composite. They are just metal slugs covered with plastic. There are totally fine and fun to play with but there is not one spec of clay in them.
