considering the opponent outs while he ahead?

Postby soundmun » Wed Oct 21, 2009 2:42 pm GMT

Why is it when say I have A9 vs AK , contemplating the opponents 3 outs for a K is irrelevant? why shouldnt I subtract the 3K that will make my 3 outs beat?

Because you need to catch up. His outs are basically everything except a 9 rather than his outs are one of the remaining Kings.

yes but in some cases a 9 will come and also a K. so its not only to catch a 9 but to avoid a K...

True probability takes that into account, and is part of what we can reverse implied odds. However, for purposes of determining which outs YOU have, it's only relevant which cards will put you ahead of an opponent.
