Could somebody explain to me whats good about playing limit?

Its a whole nother game. You have more chasers depending on levels. One advantage is you know the maximum amount of money you will need to invest in a hand. You control alot of the action, But it also is a game i think that requires more skill. Check raises etc....

too true. Theres less luck involved in limit, less then no limit.

Its said that NL is 30% skill and 70% luck, as opposed to limit where it is the opposite. check raises and what not, its more fast paced too.

There is only one casino within an hour of me that has holdem and they only have limit so i dont have a choice. When im playing with friends we play no limit tournament style.

Everything that was said above. Faster paced and more skill is involved simply because you know the limit. An all-in bet will scare most of the people most of the time. But a $5 bet won't. You have to be better at playing your cards and reading your players.

Right now, I actually prefer limit. It feels more rewarding when you win a lot of money at limit and the swings aren't as bad. It seems that most casinos use limit for ring games and no limit for most of the tourneys.

If you dont like folding great hands to a giant stack going all in all the time, then limit is the place to be.

I actually greatly, greatly prefer NL games.


It comes down to preference though. I think it's hard to say that NL requires more luck than Limit, but maybe, the emphasis on certain skills is different.


Limit takes more skill in like, knowing how to get more money in when you've got the best of it, knowing your odds, etc. etc.

NL is more of a 'feel' game, less 'mechanical' I guess.

Funny, i've heard many Limit players that get frustrated having to deal with tricky All-In bets with good cards, etc.

I myself, am frustrated often when I play limit, but that's because I enjoy NL so much more, and my skills lie in NL for sure. For instance, I ended up heads up in a pot, flop was QQ 9, I had A9, and I knew the man well enough that he didn't have the Queens. He had pocket rockets, it turns out. I know that I would have been able to take that pot down, which was pretty sizeable, in NL. As it was, a bet, or even a re-raise, wouldn't get him to lay that down.

Of course, it's very frustrating to get All-In with the best of it and lose your tourney (or all your checks) on a bad beat.

So, I dunno, I guess each game has its ups and downs. I personally will take NL over Limit any day of the week, for the pure gameplay aspect

Limit hold'em is good for grinding it out and consistently making money. Like meatwad said, the swings aren't as bad.

That being said, I don't think limit poker is nearly as fun as NL poker, especially in tournament format. Limit tournaments are incredibly bland in my opinion.

If you're a good limit player, you can expect to win far more often than you lose. My last 15 or so sessions playing limit hold'em (some $4/$8 but mostly $8/$16 and $10/$20), I believe I had one or two losing sessions.

Limit allows you to play consistently, and get the money without the headaches of massive bad beats from calling some fool who goes all in on a draw when you've got top set and catches. (One example of many!)

I agree with Carson. Limit tourneys are the pits. I play mostly limit ring games and and No limit Tourneys or tiny blind online games (.15/.25, .25/.50).
