discuss poker table etiquette
Do you think it is bad form when a player at the table bad mouths another for a dumb play. Regardless of the dumb play winning or losing.
Me I just generally smile and keep my mouth shut regardless of the outcome of the hand. I do get mad when a player makes dumb plays and beats me but meh I try to hide my frustration and rarely say anything. Especially when I make a bluff and someone calls me down with A high or top pair when there is a possible str8 or flush on board , but I see it in the casino s and home games where players will run their mouths.
So do you think these rude players should learn to be quiet or do you feel talking shit is a part of poker?
If you can piss another player off they might play poorly and poker is a psychological game

Re: discuss poker table etiquette
Depending on the circumstances I use whatever I can to give me an edge.
When playing live, I very rarely ever talk at the poker table, but if I can see someone gets wound up really easily, then I might give it ago, especially if he dishing it out to others.
Be careful though. Having been a pro rugby player who tried to make winding up the opposition an art-form, you also make yourself a target. For every 10 people I tried to distroy or out-wit, 7 of them fell apart and crumbled, 2 were experienced enough to give as good as they got, and 1 would end up giving me a black eye.
Most people go easy on the nice guy and if you are dishing out the abuse, players won't see you as that. My advice would be; unless you are sure what you are doing, keep your mouth shut and concentrate on your own game.

Re: discuss poker table etiquette
I accidentally was a bit of a dick to a guy recently in a live tourney. We were down to the final four tables from about 200 starters and about 8hrs into the action and after moving to a new seat, I had a glance at everyone's stack and *thought* this guy had a ton of chips. I do remember him getting into a fairly big pot shortly after I sat down but I figured he was still big.
Anyway so I have a slightly above average stack and I get into a hand with him and 4-bet all-in with AJ figuring him to be bullying with a big stack after he 3-bet my MP raise from the CO. After tanking for an age he called and tabled KJ at which point I said "that is a f*cking awful call, you play so bad" (I'd recently watched Tony G vs Ralph Perry for the billionth time
) but what I didn't realise until after the board was dealt was that I had him covered and I'd just dumped him out the tourney.
Now granted his call was horrific but I'd never normally say anything other than "bad luck" but I figured he'd made a terrible call as big stack and I might be on the wrong end of some terrible luck. As it turned out, justice was served, I just didn't think his tourney was on the line when I said what I said

“If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all”
True and this likewise holds for the live tournament, and as far as i know, in every poker tournament that's hosted live today there are a certain rules against announcing your hand while there's still remaining action at the table.

I was just talking to Adam about this. I tend to think talking shit is a mistake. If you berate someone for being a donkey, they'll more likely than not tighten up their game. They'll also be looking to get even with you. Some players can use this to their advantage, but I'd rather not scare the fish.

I talk a lot at the table but I don't bad mouth anyone, I don't see the point in it really just think it's quite rude.
I don't care if ppl do it tbh, it an angle and apart of the game. You just have to handle it and don't let it affect you.
TBH I think it is worse etiquette when some twat calls the clock on you who isn't even in the hand.

Most of the information that you gather about your opponents helps you and information they learn about you helps them. So don't just give it all up for free.
That makes sense to me...
