Does this play make sense or is it dumb
I am dealt a middle pocket pair.
Make a raise 3x BB get 2 callers
Flop comes AK5
I am in middle of the 2 callers. UTG checks I figure I am beat one or both of them has to have an A or a K
I also know I want to see the turn and possibly the river if it is cheap enough. I figure if I check the guy on my left will make a bet 8x bb roughly = to pot . So I bet same as before 3x BB about 1/3 of the pot.
Both call
Turn is a J
I do the same on turn Player to the left calls player to right raises AI for 1/2 my bet so I fold. I don't care about being "pot Committed" I knew I was beat from the flop .
End scenario player on right had a KQ player left had AJ
Player on right asked me what I had So I showed it . Which led to a discussion of 1/2 my friends telling me I was dumb for betting with 3 over cards then folding when "pot Committed"
Other 1/2 agreeing with my wanting to control the pot.
I personally do not give a rats ass about "pot committed "
I know many players do I do not so that isn't the issue here .
Would/do you ever make play like that trying to see extra cards cheaper ? Or is it bad playing ?

Leading at a pot to get cheaper cards? Err..........
I sort of see your twisted logic but it's very flawed. I'd strongly suggest diving into some decent poker books.

Geno is right. In theory it could work, but in practice I want to see both these guys folding to a cont bet & folding reasonably strong hands. I recon there could be a few more conditions, but have just finished a 12 hour shift, so can't think straight.HalfSugar wrote:I sort of see your twisted logic but it's very flawed. Don't like showing my cards though. Bluffing twice then showing your bluff gives the others some massive info on you.
If you like showing your cards, you can sit at my table anytime.

LoL Can't always show plus we've been playing cards together every week for almost 2 years. It was pretty obvious I was either bluffing or drawing.
I just figure They both had semi decent hands and if I hit my set I would get paid off. I wouldn't play like that every hand or every game at the time it seemed the best way.
P.S if it makes any difference it was a STT and I had well above the average chip stack not sure if I was chip leader at time or not but was up there. I doubt that is the way I would of palyed in a ring game or if I had average to less then average chip stack
