Earthquake hits england
Just came back from night out having nice italian dinner and wine, just chilling , when i feel the walls shaking against my back, i think for a second its paul and his sound system in room next door....but realise theres no sound, and it occurs to me probable earth quake, lewis is in his chair shaking, lasted about 8-10 seconds, was an experience though.Measure 4.7 on richter scale I think which is huge for england. Maybe not for you yanks that live on san andreas fault ,or is it ? Would it make news there?
Either way, I'm glad we had one tbh, just dont want another much bigger please Lord.

4.7 is a reasonably "strong" (as in fewer than 1% of all earthquakes reach this magnitude) earthquake, but not really strong enough to cause major damage to most human structures. Anything that can be felt by humans (over 3.0-3.5) is likely to make the news, but a "major" quake is usually over 6.0, unless it occurs in an especially inopportune place.

I used to live in Missouri right on one of the largest fault lines in the US. Not as active as CA but when we even got a 2.0 it made the news.
From what I have been seeing in the news it looks like all the techtonic plates on the Earth or making some rumbling noises and shifting around quite a bit.

A 4.7 is pretty ho-hum around here, but you're actually right that it's very good to have a small to medium sized quake. It releases energy stored up by techtonic plates trying to move against each other and reduces the chance of a bigger one, even if only a little bit.
