easy Q about showdown

Postby bobclart » Wed Dec 17, 2003 6:25 pm GMT

me and my friends have played hold em a few times, but we havnt perfected the rules yet. we always get it down to 2 players before showing cards, is this wrong?

i think it is wrong, but when is the showdown ? is it just after everyone still in calls?

thanks.

hey.
showing cards,,, do you mean the flop? cause, thats after the initial
round of betting, if its checked all around, or raised and called, or
when people fold, if the bet goes all around the table without getting
reraised, thats when the cards are dealt. if you mean your hole cards,
thats after all 5 cards are on the table, bets are all square, and you
see who has the best hand. or,, on a called all-in raise if its before
the flop or turn and river cards.
I suggest you browse the net, or the collumn of useful tips on the
left of all forum pages to learn more. Or create your own rules and
write them down and agree on them.

There's nothing wrong with it getting down to just two players. As many can stay in as think their hand is the best. It just usually boils down to two or three left, depending on the amount of players at the table. And even though it's been debated, I don't think cards should be shown until the seventh card is on the table and the final bets have been made. And to answer your other question, the showdown is just that. The time when everyone turns over their cards at the end of the hand. The glossary section of this site can answer many questions regarding wording. Hope I helped.

yeah after the flop, all 5 cards are down. say there are 3 players left in - does it then take a call from everyone to see each others cards? and if 1 person raises again the 2 other people have to call it?

thanks anyway. i'm gonna get ahead by reading these guides  :)

Let's say there are 3 players left and the final (river) card has just been layed. Player 1 (as we shall call him) can either check or bet. If he checks (that means no raise), the others then have the chance to also check, or to bet. If all 3 check, ALL 3 show their hands and the strongest one wins. You certainly do not have to wait until only 2 players are left in before the showdown. As ballbp says, it does often boil down to 2 or 3 players at the showdown but potentially, every1 at the table could be in at the end and u could have a 10 way showdown!

I hope this and the guides help u :)
