Evaluating Your Own Play
How can you tell if your own opinion of your own play is accurate? I think that it is fundamentally important to be able to explain to yourself why you had the outcome you did in any session or tournament but how do you know if you are correct? If you are deluding yourself you won't ever be able to cure what ails you since you'll be working on the wrong thing.

Re: Evaluating Your Own Play
You evaluate by going through the hands away from the table. Hopefully without having to act there and then, you can have a fresh look at a few hands and see if you played them optimally.
Of course, if you are deluded then you will never be able to review your own sessions. It also may help to have somebody else look over them for you.

Re: Evaluating Your Own Play
Very easy answer.
Stats. Examine, analyze, and reflect on your stats (whether it's sharkscope, OPR, HEM stats, etc), to evaluate your own play.
Be sure that the stats you're looking at are over a large enough sample size of games or hands though, otherwise they are meaningless.

Hand histories are to me like a bible to a baptist...
. I always go over hand histories or questionable hands. I evaluate my ring play in much the same way but taking into account the difference in playing style between the two.
