Fangboner's live play thread
Hi, all. I'm new here. I found this forum by googling the phrase "poker live play forum"--and sneaking past a number of scam sites such as Pokermob.
I used to play online but lately I play only live at a local public casino cardroom. I play $2/$5 limit. In about 26 hours over five days I have a gross profit of about $50. Alas, expenses (primarily transportation and food) have turned that gross profit into a net loss.
I'm creating this thread so that I and my fellow live play enthusiasts can discuss live play. I've tried discussing live play on other fora but the membership on them tends to be college kids who play only online because it reminds them of the MMPORGs they played as children. The level of enthusiasm for live play I've found is very low (and so, for that matter, is the number of fellow players who are over 25 years of age).
Anyway, if you want to discuss live play, please reply in this thread or send me a PM.

Re: Fangboner's live play thread
What sort of hours were you putting in online before it all went wrong and how many hours do you think you can manage live to replace it?
High volume players are going to have a tough time replicating their online play live and without rake back and the added costs of playing live such as gas, food etc, I think there are going to have to be some temporary career changes in the world of poker until things get back to some sort of normal.

Re: Fangboner's live play thread
Hi, HalfSugar,
I'm not in the U.S., and I'm the furthest thing from a pro. I'd put my game level at junior intermediate, or just barely second-level thinker.
I'll be playing six hours a day on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, so 18 hours per week. If there's a holiday Monday I might play on that day as well. I don't expect a huge amount of profit in the initial stages, especially since I'm playing limit.
You're right that live volume can't replace online volume, but live stakes are high enough that the hourly can be commensurate. Plus, with live play, there is no risk of the poker site playing silly buggers with your money; you just walk to the cage and cash in your chips.
That's the thing I most like about playing live.
