Postby dakine » Fri Jul 09, 2004 4:44 am GMT

:? Synopsis: Flop, 5 cards heart flush, K 10 9 7 3. Player A (PA) hole cards: As, 8h. Player B (PB) Hole cards: 9d, 6h. Dealer says split the pot. PA protests claims his 8h was his high card to win the pot over PB,s 6h. Dealer says the Kh was the high card, split the pot. Who is right? :? Note! We are all new novice holdem players.

A quick search thru this forum would provide you with the answer.

In Hold 'Em you use the 5 BEST CARDS from the 7 avaliable to you.
That's the 5 communal cards on the board and the 2 in your hand.
Therefore if both players have a flush with same high card, you go to the next card then the next then the next, down to the 5th card.

Player A has KhTh9h8h7h (best 5 from the 7 avaliable)

Player B has KhTh9h7h6h (best 5 from the 7 avaliable)

both player do NOT have the same hand which would be required for a split pot.

Therefore, Player A wins the whole pot

Good Lord, can we please have a sticky in this topic (not that it will completely stop these questions) that explains this!? I don't mind explaining this, but when the top two posts in the forum are on the EXACT SAME QUESTION, I think we have a problem.

Title it something like READ THIS BEFORE ASKING "WHO WINS THIS HAND?"

WE DONT NEED A STICKY ON THIS TOPIC. WE NEED A STICKY ON A FAQ!!!! This needs to be in it. Topics like who wins we both have 2 pair. and we all have a flush who wins. So if somebody wants to go through and figure it all out it might be helpful 8) But other then that.

Its posted on the forum more then 10x
