First time to WSOP this year
Hey Everyone... just found this site and joined! I'm not really new to poker, but this will be my first year going to the WSOP, so I thought I would post my question in the "Newbie" forum.
A few weeks ago I won my WSOP entry on PokerStars during their $615 Sunday qualifier. So, I plan to go down a few days ahead of the tourney and play some cash games/SNG's before my round 1 start time.
Questions about the WSOP tourney.
1) After the first 3 days of round 1 and the number of players is reduced to approx 2400, are all players chip stacks reset to a given amount, or are your chip counts carry forward?
Why I ask is that I guess it is possible for someone to be eliminated on a certain day, even though they may have had more chips then someone who makes in on another day...
So, I just wanted to clarify how the chip counts are used in the WSOP. That could change your strategy as if you are close to making it near the end of a day, you can perhaps not try to collect more chips if the stacks are reset.
2) Do they keep a generally accurate board somewhere of how many each day are eliminated or what the chip stack count leaders are at. Playing online you get alot of info from the tourney board, but I doubt that this is possible in a live event.
I'm sure I'll have a few more questions as time goes by.
Thanks!

Nobody's chip count gets reset. When it gets reduced to 2400 players, that's because the others have gone broke. There's no "cut" to make like in a golf tournament.

They do have big screens around the playing area which display some fairly current tournament info. Don't recall what all is shown. Then too, some announcements are made during play, to help keep you informed.
Sean is exactly right: No chip reset, just keep accumulating (ala Jamie Gold.)
The Main Event is a real grind, but it's also fun. Good luck to ya!

I'm curious to see how large the ME field is this year. Some have projected it would be as large, maybe even larger, than last years. I laughed at this. I will be surprised if the 07 ME hits 5k. If I had to guess, I'd likely say in the ballpark of 4k.

well, according to the WSOP site the schedule is planning on 9k players. 3 flights of 3k for the 3 days. maybe the field will be about the same. maybe more live card clubs have been holding qualifiers. who knows. i guess the odds are better than winning the lottery
