Folding pre-flop
Just started playing on 6 player $0.25/$0.50 no limit tables and I've found that I'm folding pre-flop on avearge 50% of the time (more in early position than in late position or the blinds, but an average of 50%). I've just about lost count of the number of times I've hit the flop and/or turnand river having already folded.
Am I playing too tight? What would be a typical pre-flop fold rate for the average tight player or the average loose player?
Having played for about a month I'm just starting to break even and I'm quite pleased with that but feel that I'm missing opportunities. Any advice gratefully accepted.

Some people will tell you that %50 is too high. An average number I've seen tossed about is %30 for seeing flops.
But, taking the limit you're playing and the amount of people(6 instead of 10) I'd probably be seeing about half the flops as well. As for hitting good cards on the turn and river, that happens to all of us.

Thanks for the advice, Nutflush.
Played for an hour yesterday and only saw the flop 23% of the time. Was being dealt such junk that I didn't win a hand for 40 minutes! Only ended up losing $5 so quite pleased with my discipline.
Going for another try now. Surely I must get some better cards to play with.........?

I still think 50% is a bit high. I find that at .25/.50 and .50/1.00 PL games that I play I see the flop between 23-27% of the time.
In games like we are playing I like to go to show down with 3-4 good hands. By good hands, I mean two big cards. . .A-K, KK, 10-10. . .etc. Then you can start to loosen up your play a little and come in with a raise with some suited connectors and smallish pairs. By showing down 3-4 good hands then you are setting yourself up to open up your game later.
So far it is working for me.

One of the big principals of poker is to minimize your losses during bad runs and maximize your profits during good runs. If I don't win a hand in the first hour, I might exit out, take a break and go back in on a new table and try again.

table texture--Ying/Yang
50% is waay too loose in a full ring game period!
How tight/loose you play is dictated by table texture&position:
I play more draws on a loose table and make much more preflop raises- more often on a tight table. So far so good. I'll coin it da "Ying-Yang Strategy"!!!
Position is actually the most important when it comes to suck-outs:
whenever you flop the nuts....your position will dictate whether you should slowplay, call, or raise/reraise!
