Free money tourney
Limit hold em, pretty decent players all around. After the first five minutes, I ceased seeing crap play. I was chip leader for a short while, now I'm not but damned close to it. Knocked out the chip leader (he was to my right) slowly but surely to take the title myself.
Around 180 left. Let's see how far I can get this time... (last time I played a tourney was No Limit Hold 'Em and placed 6th).

Man, I was pissed. It said open and I clicked on register, but it just went to registration closed at the same moment. I was like 1501 to register. Haha. Oh well, good luck against the no fold'ems.

Ugh, I was playing on the UB 5000 point one and I got caught with my pants down, practically spanked. A perfect mixture of bad cards and even worse- a table of people who went all in all the time. Got eliminated before it even got down to the last 1300! Triple ugh!
Ninja, PM or IM me sometime, we've gotta play sometime.

I was going to say earlier, but I don't see how you figure people aren't crappy players in these? Even when I get into the top 100 in these things most people are still clueless callers who bluff way too much and are mostly there by luck. But, they aren't the worst that's for sure. I played some free SNGs on party poker today. There are no words to describe it. They might as well just all get dealt random numbers at the start for the amount of thought they put into it. I don't try and help them though. I'm happy to let them go on. When they call long shot draws on the river I say NH when they make it that one time out of five. Same thing goes for when they brainlessly play their pocket aces against someone raising big and make their 2 outer for trips (what's that? 1 in 12). They thank me, but they don't have to because their play already does.

Well...I busted out 387th. I would have rather been in your position Replic-I didn't come anywhere near the money and spent an hour and a half not having any fun...didn't take many risks...I got real lucky at one point, got pocket 9's and flopped a set, then got A 6 suited and flopped the nut straight. I lost some chips to stupid play (my own), and basically was just watching my stack shorten. Eventually lost with A 10 suited to 6's when i didn't catch anything. Still Replic, I'd much rather have wasted like 10 minutes than an hour and a half, most of which I spent angry at my misfortune and stupid play.
BTW, I don't play anything but Freerolls (the 5000 pt one). This week, I'm going to play the Wednesday 4:30 one, and next Saturday's 5:30. Hope to see you there!

I have a robotics competition all of next weekend save sunday (yes, interesting, I know, and yes, I built it) so don't expect me on there. I'm free all of wedsnesday night however, so if you find a freeroll that night I'm sure we can both sign up. Pokerpages has like 7 every day, so maybe you should check them out.

The problem with free tournaments is that they are nearly all luck. Crappy players are great for milking in the long run at ring games, but not in a tournament setting. They don't care. They treat the game as gambling and chase hands to the river. You'll eventually get burned. Almost every time I play these it's an hour of smart play followed by a disapponting loss to some idiot calling my raises and making something odd on the river (followed by 8 other idiots saying nh to him). I don't think it matters how you play these or how good you are, they are mostly luck.
After many many of these tournaments, I suggest just going all-in at the start with your marginal/good hands and hopefully build a bankroll. Then you have the chips to play a tighter/smarter game against these fools. Don't waste your time waiting for a good hand, only to have it get beat by someone too clueless to fold. If you go out at the start then you probably just saved yourself time anyway. I'd rather get unlucky at the start than waste an hour first.

Well Absolution, after reading many, many of your posts about how you get rivered...maybe you're playing too tight? In any case, keep playing the freerolls, it'll pay off soon enough.

What kind of robotics? PM me if you don't want to hijack the thread
