Freerolls vs. Buy-ins
wow...i just played my first...well...semi-buy in kinda...it was on UB and the buy in was 200 UB points...it was a point for points tourney...there were 61 people that entered...and it was my first time going into a actually a more realistic tournament....and what i've noticed is that people plays a LOT tighter/smarter than the freerolls where there are like...1500 people...it took me a while to get used to...which means if i have a good hand early in the game...i can actually bet and see a flop~ no idiots will go all in~ neways...i came in 4th and got around 1300 ub points~ :D
neways...does anyone on here that played freerolls for a while had to adjust and get used to the tight "real buy in" play as well ?? also, when it's "BIG" money tournament....would people play EVEN tighter ??

Good job in the tourney. I've only played a few freerolls and that was all it took for me to see that A LOT of people don't play properly. As far as the higher stakes games go, it's not so much that people play all that much tighter. It's just that the level of play is increased. You don't see nearly as many people chasing things because most of them know that that is a mistake, unless they have the odds to do so. What you do get is people who play a lot trickier and know how to set people up and and when they can make someone think that they might be setting them up. I hope this made sense but all in all, playing tighter is not the way to go as you move up tables. Playing tight is a part of it, but you have to know when to loosen up in certain situations.

Ya, freerolls are just underage (shouldn't be playing on a gambling site anyway - sorry) lovefests of very poor players. I play one every now and then on UB, but they really are pointless. It's all luck. You either wait for good hands (lucky cards), or just play their calling game (lucky draws). You can't use any real strategy. You can't represent anything or use any intelligent play beyond playing good starting pockets. In fact, I think you actually do worse if you try and play tricky because they will never pick up on it (like trying to represent a hand you don't have) and all you do is cost yourself when they call. They don't look beyond what they have in their hand. Anyway, the UB point tourneys are probably somewhat better since it represents something real. People might actually think about your image and your betting instead of the two aces they made with a rag kicker.
