FTP $25K Guaranteed. 300ish runners, we’re down to 20.
Average stack 16,000
Blinds 500/1000
Antes Total 500
Hero (29,000 chips) BB K9
Villain (32,000 chips) UTG raises to 2895
Folds to me.
No specific reads on the villain but the tables been very aggressive with pre-flop raises. Most players leading out for 3K and taking the pot down there or on the flop with a C-Bet (although without a showdown it’s impossible to know for sure).
I didn’t like my holding much or the positional disadvantage but the odds convince me to call.
(Pot 6730)
Flop 6:club: 9:heart: T:club:
Now I felt a bet here would have been best but a moment of fear made me check it hoping to pick up a free club. On reflection this was very unlikely. A bet could of acted as a semi bluff and taken the pot or might have blocked an even larger bet for me to call.
Villian bets 5000.
Compounding my earlier mistake I now over shoot into aggression and push for my remaining 26,135.
He insta-calls and turns over 9:spade:T:spade: I don’t hit my flush or King.
Up until then I was happy with how I was playing, I made a few (what I hopped were good) laydowns and even though my stack lagged behind the pack occasionally I didn’t get frustrated. I build my way up and took a few bounties (that almost covered my $120 buy-in) so my finish made me $150 + ($20 x 5) which isn’t bad. I’m just annoyed that I lost it at the end, I think I was focusing too much on trying to make it onto the final table with a good stack.
