Go for the win or go for the money?

Postby raisebot » Tue Jul 29, 2008 1:35 am GMT

Live MTT, $60 buy-in
about 4 tables to start

Down to the final table, 4 spots get paid, total prize pool about $2100
1st $10xx
2nd $6xx
3rd $3xx
4th $1xx

Blinds 1k/2k, no antes
lotsa small stacks ranging from 3-5k, with about 4 stacks at 10k or more

Im in the BB, with about 16k in chips, with 7 :club: 8 :club:
Folded around to SB (big stack with over 20k, limps or min raises every hand), who min-raises and makes it 4k to go, I call

Flop-
6 :club: 8 :spade: 9 :club:

SB bets out 5k

Obviously I see this as an easy raise/shove, anyone have any different ideas/reasoning behind them?

There is no reason whatsoever to do anything but push.

Really, you should probably push/fold preflop with such a puny stack.

The problem was, was that my stack was actually way more than about half the table. And I can't really see folding a SC to a min raise PF, when I have position, against a loose bully.

I reraised all in and he called.
Turns out he had pocket Aces, I bricked out, and he sent me packing. Oh well.

Problem is, you just don't have any maneuvering room, so position counts for almost nothing. 25% of your stack is already in on the flop.

Played fine. Pushing preflop is ranging from bad to very bad.

That's a pretty funky tourney structure or there are some very lucky players for the average to be that low at 1K/2K.

i was in a structure like this just recently...

after it got down to 12 or so players they just kept doubling the blinds every 20 min...

i told them that if they were going to do that they just might as well handed out bingo cards at the start...
