Going from live games to online

Postby Bobweiser » Wed Jan 14, 2009 3:57 pm GMT

As you guys may or may not remember -- I usually play live games 3/6 or maybe 4/8 if it is open and I'm feeling good. Or my home game which is a 1/2 NL.

I have recently (within the past week or so) transitioned to a little online play (I hate driving to the casino, save gas money, etc).

Just to get a feel for it, I have been playing Micro Stakes (either .10/.20 limit or .10/.25 NL) fairly successfully. Doubled my deposit within about 3 hours.

I have a leveling/stakes issue. When should I determine to shoot for the higher stakes? Would you say that 3/6 live is comparable to 3/6 online?

I would really like some insight on how some of you approach or determine what stakes you should be playing at.

My goal isn't necessarily to become a pro or use it as full-time income, but I have to say I like winning, and am gunning for a higher level of satisfaction.

Thanks!

Hehe, yes. It IS a test. I wasn't going to fully fund anything I was just trying out.

I'm planning on trying it for about a month or two before I commit a decent amount of dollars to it.

As of right now, Id rather take 300 bucks to the casino than throw 300 online.

Edit: So the question I have with your reply is:

Obviously the size of my bankroll is a factor in choosing the stakes at which I play, but I guess my question is..for a skill level..what is comparable? Is there really a difference between 3/6 in a casino and 3/6 online?

In the US most people say B&M is softer than Online. In the UK it’s generally the reverse. But stakes also factor into it.

Personally, I’d say the best thing to do is see for yourself.

Start at the lower limits and build your way up, if you can’t well then you know online is harder and it might be more profitable to spend the extra time and money travelling to the casino.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO

I haven't played live limit in many years, but the skill in live $1/$2 no-limit games is comparable to online .10c/.25c games. No exaggeration. I'm sure for limit it's a similar comparison.

Rough rule of thumb is 10x the stakes online = B&M for limit. For limit, I would start at .25/.50 or .50/1 to play around a bit.

Okay, after a while of playing online I can see the differences.

I am having trouble in the 3.75 18 person sit n gos, make it to final table, but cant cash.

However, out of 8 1.75 sit and go's ive won 6 and got in money once.

I can now see how comparable they are :D haha..

Wonder why? People in B&M's play looser because they feel pressure? Im not sure I understand why?

I think even decent online players play worse live. Probably got to do with the fact that one doesn't drive all the way to a casino to fold.
