Good Beats

Postby markball » Fri Feb 11, 2005 9:22 am GMT

I don't know about anyone else, but although sometimes I get a chuckle out of everyone's bad beat stories, I'd also love to read some good beat stories. I always read about how the idiot sucked out, not when the idiot paid you off, which happens much more often, although we of course forget these. I'll start it off with 2 recent ones of mine.

Although everyone says don't do it, I have been sucked into playin the NL cash game online. But just 1/2 Blinds. Anyways...

Hand 1: Dealt A :diamond: A :spade: . Early position raise to $6, I bump it up to $12. 3 guys after me all of a sudden raises all in for $200. I almost cream my pants. I call, and of course on pokerstars you don't see his hand during the board cards. Flop 5  J :diamond: 7 :diamond: . Turn 5 :diamond: . River Q :diamond: . So I am praying he doesn't have J J, and finally he flips and shows K :diamond: K :spade: . Thank god I had the Ace of Diamonds!!!

Hand 2: Dealt A :spade: K :diamond: . I am BB and 4 limpers to me, so I raise it up to 8. Get 2 callers. Flop K :club: 2  4 :diamond: . Small blind leads out and bets $12, I raise it up to $36, he goes all in for $60 more. I think about it for a bit, and decide to call. He shows A :spade: 2 :club: . He didn't improve and an idiot pays me off.

Allrite lets here some more....

Technically they are not good beats, because you are not beating them surely? So if anything they are good wins? ;)

Regardless of how ya look at it, he is one the winning end at the finish, and that what counts.

Good thread. :D I always like to hear a good win story also.

Here is my contribution from 3 nights ago.

I was playing the $2/4 $400 max buy in game on Full Tilt. I was up to about $505 after 15 minutes when I get dealt 8 :spade: 8 :diamond: . I call and see the flop for $4. The flop comes Q :club: 8  8 :club: .

About 3 people saw the flop. The first guy checks, I check, and one guy bets $15. The first guy folds and I call.

The turn comes the 4  and the guy bets $35 into me & I call.

The river comes the A :club: and the guy bets $135. I raise all in and he calls another $200. He shows his J:club: 6 :club: for the flush.

I show down the quads that I flopped.

Good piece of advice is not to fish for a 3rd nut flush with the board paired. Also don't call sizeable bets fishing for an open ender with 2 of a suit on the board. I don't mind fishing for a straight when it is the nuts if I hit, but not if I still need to make a scared call. Same goes for the flush - I don't mind fishing for a non-nut flush draw - just not when the board is paired. This is also at 6 person tables - At a 10 person table, I am not so eager to fish for non-nut flush draws.

That guy just got put into a tough situation. Its really the 2nds best flush since the Ace and Queen were on the board. Tough to put you on Q8 or 84 unless you were in the blinds.

I'm suprised he called your all-in on the river...you could have had A8 since you called all the way to the river and then went all-in. You had the fortune of flopping a hand that you could slow-play and got even luckier when he hit his flush.

I can't say I blame his play too much up until the river. He was obviously out of position, and was likely not gonna get a call for $135 unless you had one of the few hands that would beat him. And he HAD to know he was beat when you raised him but called anyway.

Nice feeling to win a hand like that huh?

1988 TR, that was a nice hand for you indeed. You gotta love it when they go chasing for the second best hand. I really didnt like the other guy's play at all however. Why is he in this pot with J6s? He isnt in the blinds so I see no excuse for his play.

But it was a very nice hand for you and a great slow playing oppurtunity that payed off. good job :D

Bmiller - I don't mind his play at all really.... I can't fault aggressive play - I like it. But fishing for 3rd best flush (The ace wasn't on the board yet) is a little weak with a pair board. Once he bet 135 & got raised, I think he is too pot comiitted to fold....
