goodbye =(

Postby Moon_Child » Mon Apr 21, 2008 2:02 am GMT

over the years i've improved my game a great deal, but i can't win enough money to justify all the time and effort i put into poker. i'm not the best player, but definitely one of the more unlucky ones. i don't ever recall being on a good run ever since i've picked up 2 hole cards 4 years ago. i've never won any large sum of money. i really do wonder how it feels like to be on a heater for awhile. i am overall a winning player, but sometimes i wish i would run better than just being up at the end of the month. so when i think about it, my poker life/career or whatever you want to call has been a disappointment because i tried so hard, yet it never really worked out. i still remember my first post when i wrote something along the lines of poker being rigged. makes me laugh when i think it now because with my luck, i should quit poker anyways.

lately, i've been on a pretty bad run and it doesn't seem to end. i am still playing solid and i can honestly say i never go on tilt. i mean when you've seen it all, you start to become immune to bad beats. my bankroll has dropped quite a bit, but i think i've done a pretty good job in keeping the losing to a minimum. so i am still happy. i've always had the mentality of playing good poker will profit in the long run and it has, but at a SLOW ASS rate. =P

i guess you can say this post is somewhat of a vent post, but it really isn't. i'm not even at all mad while writing this from the top of my head. it's just that all the bad beats has kind of discouraged me. yes, poker is a dirty game and shit happens, but when your all-in with AA, KK get cracked by random garbage like 92o and 69o, 1 outtered, flop flush > flush, 2 outtered, etc... just to make it simple, when you have the money in with the best hand and loses, it does make you feel the pain after happening 14 times in a row (fact). the worse is grinding for a long time and winning 2.5x the buy in, raise preflop with AA, get re-raised, pushing all in vrs AK and then ....................doh! what a waste of time. back to start.

anyways, i'm going to call it quits. i'm going out on a good note and i don't think i'm going to post anymore. it's been fun and i've always considered this to be my home forum even though i don't think i've made any contributions that stood out at this place.

good luck everyone!

I feel kinda bad for you as I read that post, as I know how you feel in many ways, but you just have to rub it off , and be willing to change your game all the time.

I am not saying you're playing poorly or anything like that , but poker isn't easy as im sure you know, you have to work very hard at it if you want to do well imo. I read back at my original posts and so many of them were bad beat posts, dont get me wrong I still like to dabble, but thats the sick nature of the game, you're gonna have rough times and get unlucky. And you have to take it.

If you sincerely believe you're playing very well and barring terrible luck can do well then I think you shouldn't quit. Maybe take a week off or something and come back , and give it your all. I have had many times when I've been pissed and wanted to quit, but I still hold the belief that I am a strong player and can overcome adversity and mentally strong enough to grind the through bad luck.

If you like the game, are willing to learn and keep improving the game, and are mentally strong enough to play good consistently- then you should keep playing imo. Maybe play a different format, like solely play tournaments or just cash games or sngs. But quitting just cos you lose 14 allins in a row is quitters attitude.

I remember turn of the year, I owed alot of money in rent, and didn't even have a laptop for a few months so I couldn't play. Soon as I got one, I focused, played well and paid it all back quickly.

Aelred would probably say im foolish to advise you to keep playing, but I like to think if a player is willing and likes the game, he should play and expect to do well.

Despite freaky days, we're not playing roulette ya know. You have the choice and freedom in every hand, on every street to do what you choose. We're not rolling dice, you still control your poker fate in the long run Moonchild.

Hope this helps bud. Gl whatever you choose to do.

Ciso, very good avice.

I myself would like to add.. don't stop playing but I would change why your playing. Are you playing to make money? Are you playing for fun? If your playing to be a winner then stop...play for the fun an entertainment aspect of the game. Once you feel at ease and not like you have to win or that the weight of the game is on your shoulders, your going to win because you'll be more relaxed and be able make the best descisions.

If you're not happy playing poker, then stop playing. Regardless of whatever everyone else says.

Good Luck.

Moon I know the feeling. No matter how many right plays I make they're still wrong.
The other night I said nh a couple times this guy gets all testy. What do I get, AA. All in for $50. Couple raisers before, loose table. Mr. Testy calls with 99.
I got him. No a 9 on flop I'm done. He says, that'll shut Mr. Cheerleader up.
This things have happened alot lately. Makes me wonder why I keep playing too.
