Great New Movies

I love Blade Runner, but in terms of impact, it's not even in the running excepting the opinions of geeks. I'm waiting for Ridley Scott to finally release the version he's actually happy with, since he's tried it three times now.

What...are we discussing impact movies?
The Matrix is an ok flick, but if you ask me it's just a culmination of the action genre and style of the time it came in.
I'd rather mention:
Dr. No - Which really spiced up the action genre, and made it ok for heroes to not always be nice.
Psycho - One of the most genre-altering movies of all time.
Le Coucher de la Marie - One of the first pornographic films. Not that this movie itself had the biggest impact - but porn on film has had a tremendous impact.
Paths of Glory - Not the best known movie by now, but the classic war/anti-war film is really just a remake of this 1953 Kubrick classic which has some of the best battle scenes ever made in a war movie - maybe up and until Saving Private Ryan.
And there are many others, but why make a long list.

Cuz long lists are fun.
You should seriously consider becoming a professional diver in the oil industry. You have what it takes.

The Matrix - I get razzed for this sometimes not because I like the movie, but because I consider it to be the seminal science fiction film of the past 30 years. Yes, I think it's more important than Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I have difficulty finding another film that had such an impact on both pop culture and movie-making techniques.
No way. The matrix was cool. Cool isn't forever. It's not Star Wars and it's not Close encounters and it's not blade runner - not in terms of story, action, plot, world design, or film-making technology that bloomed from the making of it. The Matrix gave us bullet time, Star wars gave us non-linear editing

Bah, Lucas didn't pioneer NLEs. He did create his own system, but he was just using the best tool available to him.
It's like trying to credit a guy for inventing a hammer just because he owned a nail.
You work in TV, don't you Johnny? Most people wouldn't know that.

Well Matrix didn’t really give us BT either
But Matrix used it in a way that was cool and memorable

Nerds know a good movie when they see one. They're the aristocracy of moving pictures!
