Half Life 2
I got the Orange Box for Christmas this year and I just completed Half Life 2, Episode 1 and Episode 2 on Medium difficulty. All three games were really amazing, I think episode 2 was probably my favorite. As a new gamer, I'm pretty bad, medium was challenging, but attainable, I liked the difficulty level. The puzzles and enemies became more interesting and tough as the series went on.
Anyone else played half life?

If you haven't played Portal yet, it is one of the best games of all time. Make sure you listen to the end credit song after you finish the game (which is pretty short, 3-4 hours).

I just got the orange box, too. I got the orig Half Life 2 when it first came out and still play it from time to time, so it was a treat to get a lot of new gameplay. Ep 2 was much better than Ep 1...I hated the whole beginning of Ep1 with the blue gravity gun inside the Citadel...so repetitive.
Try and download some 3rd party add-ons for more maps, I have tried and few and they were decent.
And portal......now I guess I must try it.

The Orange Box is such good value for money. I’m not much into gaming (no time these days
There’s probably still CS servers around too.

I just played through portal this morning, the escape is so amazing, I have advanced mode to go through and some bonus rooms, but the first 19 levels are really great, I might just have to play through it again.

Is portal just.....rooms? I need to kill stuff. I mean, the puzzles are mildly interesting but I need to frag shit.

Yes and no, I actually had the exact same attitude when I was told about portal, the idea didn't really seem that cool, plus you don't get to kill people... although things are often trying to kill you, turrets, acid, weird rocket-powered things, and of course - the leading antagonist, a crazed robot that turned a training facility into a death-trap. You're just a rat in a cage. With a portal-gun. Seriously, once you figure out the game - and once you have both halves of the portal-gun, it's really very interesting.... and tough... and fun. I don't want to give away much... but the escape is really cool. The idea of the whole game just makes me happy inside. Dedicate a day (or a week, depending on how long you can play for) to Portal, I am sure you wont be disappointed. I'm actually probably going to play through it again, just cause it was that cool.

Dude, portal is the single most original thing to be done with an FPS engine in maybe 20 years, combined with some genuinely entertaining writing for a change.

In the past 3 days I just went through all of the advanced maps and challenge courses, I also earned all of the achievements, my favorite probably being Long Jump. Portal is amazing, definitely the best PC game I've ever played.
