Help a beginner
maikl10
Hi im new so please dont be to rough on me.
In a nut shell I want to improve my game, but unlike the majority of people im not an online player but play mostly in friendly
cash games. Mostly micro limit 10/20 cent. (I live in Germany)
Typically on a good day I can beat this game for 60 to 80 euro with bad day losses totalling the same amount.
When i first began playing i was winning say 70% of the games but now im down to 50/50.
I dont have any stats..(live player) but im generally considered loose aggressive, and at the start this paid off.
Now however im getting called alot more , so i have tried to adjust my play and tighten up a bit. While this has lowered the amount
i could loose in a session, it has also for some reason meant i havent been winning as big.
IN fairness it could be the other players have got used to my game or im failing to exploit situations..
Any advice would be appreciated..
Please no haters, just a bloke trying to improve seeking suggestions from his esteemed peer group

Re: Help a beginner
If they have got used to your style then just mix it up and play a bit tighter like you said. Cut out as many bluffs and big plays. Check out the stuff on the left under Texas Hold'em Strategy might be able to help you out.

Playing hold'em with only one style of play can easily allow your opponents to pick up on your play and learn to beat you. You say that you play loose aggressive which may be good for against some people who have greater tendencies to fold, however some people will be more prone to calling you. As you play, observe their style of play and exploit it. I sometimes go up against people who go all in pre flop. Normally I don't call all in hands with A6o, but sometimes it is actually the right play to call. People who rarely go all in usually have really good hands like AA, KK, QQ, AKs, etc... That would be a bad player to call A6o with. Also know that bluffing is sometimes over rated. Even if a majority of your bluffs are working doesn't mean you're making profit. For instance, throwing in $200 into a pot with $50 better succeed 4 times out of 5 in order to break even. So make sure you are getting the right odds. With more people the less you should be bluffing. The fewer the people the more you should be bluffing.
If you don't know what pot odds are I'd suggest looking it up on google. In fact look up all these terms below:
Pot odds
Best starting hold'em hands
Fold equity
Semi bluffing
Continuation betting
Most common poker tells
Poker psychology
I don't know if you know all this stuff already or not, but since you said you were a beginner I assume you haven't.
Don't play with a set predictable style, play according to the status quo of the table. Find out what the quo is and play the counter strategy against the people at your table. As you move from table to table there will be different strategies you will need to use to beat them.
Now go win some $$$$
