High stakes lingo
Hi,
been catching up with some high stake poker.
Great show, nice moves, sick cards sometimes.
Anyway been trying to understand 2 things :
1. What is that prop sheet with the side bets they are talking about? I understand it got something to do with players NOT in the hand betting on whom is going to win it.. right?
2. what is the "Straddle" they sometimes talk about?
Thanks
Danny ,

Prop bets could be almost anything: is the flop suited, all red, all black, paired, rainbow, anything. One night at the Trop we had someone who was completely smashed sit down at our table, and me and five other people made a small side pot that would go to the person that broke him.
A straddle is usually just a blind minraise that acts as another blind. So in a $1/$2 game, UTG might post a $4 straddle, and then have the option of acting last preflop.
Both kinds of bets are for the action junkies.

I think the idea is really cool. Time to try it at the homegame.

I love limit straddles, it just adds dead money to the pot and makes the action better. I would never do them myself-I will leave that to the idiots.
BTW-they agree to ALL straddle. In a lot of ring games, one or two players will occasionally straddle. So they are just paying extra blinds and allowing you to 3 bet.

I heard like... a half hour debate about straddles at my last live game..
I quietly sat there and kept my mouth shut.
Make sure you have a reason for them if you start doing them.... And make sure that reason is actually going down...

It can bring some life into a game grown passive and it can be good fun. The best poker stories always begins with a straddle.
