How many cards to use to form a straight?

Postby Adidas » Tue Dec 25, 2007 9:52 pm GMT

Hi,

Total beginner question:
How many hole cards must I use to form a 'valid' straight:
Basically, if the community cards are 3, 4, 5 , 6, J, must I have 2 and 6 for the straight to be valid or can I have just say a 2 or a 7 ?

My hunch is that I can use 0, 1 or 2 cards to form a valid straight, just like I can use 0, 1 or 2 cards to form any valid poker hand along side 3, 4 or 5 community cards.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

for no limit texas hold-em, you are correct. You may use 0, 1 or 2 hole cards along with 3, 4 or 5 community cards.
