how many chips? please help!
I just purchased a chip set that contains 500 chips. There are:
150 grey $1
150 red $5
100 green $25
50 blue $50
50 black $100
To start the game, how many chips do I pass out to each player (there will be 8 players)? Do I give each player $500, less, more??? I have only played with nondenomination before and I want to start playing with denomination chips. Please help!
thanks!

With 8 players, the most you can have is:
150 red $5 - 18 per player ($90 each)
100 green $25 - 12 per player ($300 each)
50 blue $50 - 6 per player ($300 each)
50 black $100 - 6 per player ($600 each)
So that is a total of $1290 per player maximum. First of all you need to decide if this is going to be a rebuy tourney, if it is and the rebuys are unlimited, you are gonna need more chips! If it is limited rebuys (eg 1 rebuy, 1 add-on), you would get away with giving about $400 to each player (no more than 1290/3).
Let's assume it is not a rebuy, give each guy $1,250 in chips and start the blinds at $25/$50 with a level of say 25mins. Second level could be $50/100 with $100/$200 on level 3 and $150/300 or $200/$400 on level 4 depending on how long the game is going on. Obviously adjust these to suit your needs - if you want a shorter game up the blinds and decrease the level lengths, for a longer game increase the level lengths and perhaps lower the blinds.
