I just had a scenario in a SNG which I suppose has got me questioning the way I play a made hand to an extent. Here is the situation:

I am table chip leader by some distance with 7 left and I am playing [Qd][Ts] from the SB. Flop is [Qc][Tc][6c] 3-ways up.

I lead out for 1/3 pot and both players call. Turn is [Th].

I lead the turn for 1/2 pot and lose both since that is probably more than 50% of either of their stacks.

Checking the flop and turn with a made hand (I know I was far from made on the flop btw!) and then firing on the river is obviously terrible play and all but the worst players will get away easily. In this spot however, I really think I should have let a river card peel off and prayed for a club to fall.

My problem is that I hate playing big hands meekly so I think I f*ck up too easily in these spots by being too aggro

I think extracting the max from a hand can be very dependent on what others have. It’s like watching those players folder around to you in the BB with AA, it’s sick but there’s nothing you can do.

Personally I’d check the turn and hope your flop bet might look like a semi or full bluff.

I was multitasking a tournament and the forum...

I agree completely, checking the turn works the way the hand was played, but many times it ends up where you still get a fold.

Its a big hand board, Checking the flop is a poor play, you miss a bet and give a chance for them to hit the draws, or you have to plan on check raising.

When you make your hand there are only monster hands showing. Your players are only calling if they are morons, (they should ship given the bet you gave them) but if they do call their reasons are for the made flush, feeling like chasing for the flush, or 10x, at any rate they are pretty much drawing dead, keep them interested, check the turn, then bet for value.

I was just kidding around because you quoted the rest.

I guess a positive of betting the Turn is that would build the pot. Concealment is a handy but it has to be balanced against the need to grow the pot so that you can bet more later and still offer enticing pot odds. A trap I fall into a lot.
