I know another newbe question

Postby cachinghomer » Tue Jan 02, 2007 3:13 pm GMT

I play holdem on line and at friends houses but have never played at a casino. When you get chips at a casino are they in the same denominations as your money. How many chips do you buy is there a set amount. Thanks for any help. I am dying to play at the casino but dont want to look too much like a fish. Feel free to e-mail directly cachinghomer @ yahoo.com

Like many poker questions, it depends. Where are you going to play? What game, limit or NL?

never played live poker.
But from what I understand here, it like online.
There is usually a max buyin, which you should usually take. (max is good)

For the rest is the same like online, with added sweat, noise and loud losers .

Can't wait to try it out my self.

It depends on the game. For a 100 buck game, you'd usually get a rack of reds (20 $5 chips) and then trade in 1 of them for 5 $1 chips for blinds, etc. If you're playing 10/20fl, you're probably going to see alot of $5s, as well. Bigger games get bigger chips, etc.

A little nit picky but a rack is 100 chips (5 rows of 20) a 100 bucks gets you a rack of white. A rack of red will set you back 500.

Not to nitpick ;) but it rather depends where you are. A rack of reds in The Mirage will cost you $500 sure but a $100 rack will get you 100 BLUE chips. Same story in the Bellagio.
