In honour of our friend......
Well guys, it looks like it's the end of the road for one of our members. Our Beloved StarlightCoast.
It just doesn't feel right that this member who first joined on 25th Apr 2004 can leave here without a proper goodbye.
Starlight is really living the American dream. He went from working in a gas station dreaming of being his own boss, living on his natural skill and wit by playing some of the high stakes games both live and online. Currently he has moved state and is unemployed. Even after that minor setback, he is still prepared to put the hours in. If his bankroll projections are correct, I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see the name StarlightCoast popping up on many other poker forums in the months/year to come.
He started out playing $5 SNGS and freerolls on pokerroom all those years ago. His career has had many peaks and troths including reaching the dizzy heights of $3/6 Limit Hold'em to playing freerolls on Pacific Poker.
The guy doesn't leave the door without a plan and isn't afraid to put in the graft of working out how much he can make if he continues at his current win rate at small stakes. I had the fortune nearly three years ago to test the mind of Starlight when I sent him a PM. I was concerned and a bit sceptical in the way he approached poker.
I will post a few extractions from his reply. It was clear to me back then that this guy is never far away from a quest or two and always has his thinking cap on.
As you can see, Starlight (Jim) just refuses to let negative thoughts enter his mind. He is positive when he wakes up and is just as positive when he goes to bed. If his PokerTracker Database shows him negative results, he just gets rid of that bad boy and starts afresh. If he is a losing player at a certain game, he just switches it up and finds another quest to take on.

Starlight first became pro in the month of May 2004 (See Here) and has been up and down with the game. Trying out many different strategies and adding different types of games to his bow.
One of his best finishes in an MTT was 2nd out of 215 in the Fabulous Poker Freeroll netting $17 (See Here. You can also see a list of his best tournament finishes
Here.
Starlight has always looked upon poker in a slightly different light to the other top pro's. Rather than aiming for the loose action games with bad players, Starlight chose a different approach targeting the tight games where players respected your raises. That way, you can't get called by garbage (See Here).
The road to bro has derailed many a time. In one of his threads he wrote
Unfortunately, this is not the case. If you read the other thread you will see he has $25 on Poker Stars right now, but nobody can doubt Starlights stats. He has withdrawn $900 from pokerstars. Not only does he have faith in his own ability but so do others. One anonymous player even donated money to Starlight in order to help him along his way to Prosville.
The dream is to become a professional poker player for Starlight. Whether he has to sleep in his car and play $2/4 at the casinos, or play $.1/.2 limit on Poker Stars. He rates his limit game at 9/10, so if he can't beat those stakes then I don't think any of us will succeed.
With our support or not, Starlight has the determination and the bankroll projections to make it in the world of poker. He may not be with us any more, but his mind will never be that far away from poker. Hopefully we all have a little of starlight in our games and he will live on here.
I think the following threads sum up Starlights personality.

In my eyes, he made it. He has won over $900 at online poker.
Goodbye Starlight. You will be missed around these parts and good luck.

I think if you continue with these all you are going to do is continue to be disappointed and just get negative results. The truth is, I don't think you will be at 45k within a year. This is going to be a disappointment if you don't reach that target.
The way poker goes, you win big, break even or lose in a month. I think bankroll projections are bad because they don't take into account months when you lose and it seems to assume you will win every month.
I have to disagree. While you may be correct that it could disappoint some people what it does for me is help me focus on specific goals. The way I look at it, if I don't achieve the goal in the timeframe I am shooting for I have a chance to reanalize the scenario I have set and can see why I did not achieve this or why I did not achieve that, and this will give me valuable lessons about my own abilities and what I can or cannot do and in what time frame I can or cannot do it in. I completely understand that one month is a losing one and the next a winning one, but I feel that in the end it will all average out. Since the end goal is 14 months away it does not matter if I hit $2/$4 on the goal date because I may hit $3/$6 2 weeks earlier than expected.
StarlightCoast wrote:crack wrote:You seem to be deleting your PT database whenever it seems to be telling you something you don't like. I have only had 2 PT databases in about a year and a half. I only changed because I switched to shorthanded. You have to stop deleting your DB if you want to get your true stats.
PT stats are a tool and nothing more. When I change the conditions that the tool is being changed, such as multitabling and then switching to single tabling, a fresh db is needed. If I want my "true" stats I can get them emailed to me from poker-edge which shows me as a bomb, very aggressive with a win rate of 5+bb/100. This is from when I first started playing on Stars which was approximately May/05. It is true in the past I have deleted them during a temper tantrum, but even then it was because I was experimenting with a style or whatnot and if you switch back to your regular style, that db needs to be changed or I don't feel it will give you true results.

.First things first however. My wife Becci and I sat down and figured out what we wanted in as far as extra money in the bank for the bad weeks, the money to move in and all that other stuff that goes along with it. Furnishing an apartment, getting our licenses and new registrations and all that other tid bit stuff. The final analysis is $15k. I want to do it by June 2008

Damn, I scared him away with my hurtful words. That's the last time I try to give someone a reality check.
For everyone's information, he's obviously not going to be banned, I don't know why he would assume that. Unlike him, I can handle people saying "screw you" to me without getting my panties in a bunch.
Bravo crack btw, insta-POTY right here

You appear to be under the delusion that I can tinker with this place. I can moderate it only, I cannot administrate it.
