Is there a down side to playing as all chips are equal value
We will be starting a weekly card game soon and we are trying to get everything down before we start. Most of the guys all like the idea of $10-$20 buy-in and it gets you 100 chips all of equal value. Is thee a down side to this?
thanks

Well, it would kinda suck. You might as well use dollar
bills or smokes. I would suggest 3 denominations. That
is the way to go, unless it's a 10,000 game, and they're
all worth 100, but still I'd want some 50s and 500s. As far
as any down sides,,, not really, except that it would suck.

I would suggest to you that you use 2 or 3 denominations, no more. There is nothing wrong per se with one value of chip but having different denominations change betting habits, especially in no limit games. I'd recommend having one chip value at about 1% of the total starting chips and the other about 4-5 times that. Eg. $10,000 of starting chips with $100 and $400/$500 chips.

Is this for a tournament or a cash game? For a tournament what I do is I use 4 denominations - 3 for the lowest 3 amounts when it starts, then we add the 4th color chip when a few players are eliminated and the blinds go up. Ex. if a game has 6 guys left and the blinds are 500 and 1000 the 100 chips are pretty tedious to have to use and keep counting and stacking.
For a cash game it really doesn't matter as much, the only times it's a pain is when you've got a split pot then it can take a minute to count them all.
