The assassination was a carefully planned, brilliantly exercised job. It's conceivable that the "mob" were involved for this part. (Although evidence suggests, its more than 1 group, mostly 2 marksman from the mob and some french assassins hired).
Forget the lone assassin theory, lee harvey oswald didn't fire 1 shot at JFK that day. The best marksman couldn't perform that feat from the texas school book depository alone.
But the cover up, the wiping out of like 103 people tied in with the jfk assassination in the next 10 years. *some were natural causes though*. And the Warren commission erroneous claims. That couldn't be done by gangsters.
No, it must have been the fbi or cia. JFF of course was going to "smash into thousand pieces ,and replace J Edgar Hoover".
It's sad how so many americans think it's the most free country in the world, such bs american propaganda. You're no more free than other country.

Significantly less free in some ways as opposed to a country like the Netherlands or Sweden IMO.

You are correct in not attributing to maliciousness that which can be adequately explained by stupidity/incompetence.
Not directly related to this, but I just started reading One Minute to Midnight, which is an account of the Cuban Missile Crisis. So far, it looks like it's going to be quite good, for any of you that are history buffs.

I highly recommend the movie 'Thirteen Days' which is on this subject - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0146309/

Minus a few creative liberties, the film does tell the story decently well, especially in the aspects in which Kennedy and McNamara had a number of internal conflicts with the Pentagon.
Haven't read One Minute to Midnight, but I'll probably check it out (I'm studying to get my Master's in History for those who don't know). It's not my area of expertise, but the Cuban Missile Crisis has been a subject of interest for me.
