knocking down stacks of chips

Postby ratboy » Sun Nov 05, 2006 11:18 pm GMT

i have noticed that players slide chips in the pot in nice stacks. upon determining a winner, the dealer always knocks these stacks down, making the winner restack them. this seens foolish, even stupid...is this a 'rule, tradition, or just idiocy on the dealers part. plz explain this aberration. tkz

dealers do it because they secretely would rather be playing themselves, and they are jealous of the player winning the pot so they mess up their chips.

I'd always understood it to be the way dealers display their control over the game. Their "Alpha Male" status, as it were.

You can ask them not to do it, of course, but that's usually interpreted as a challenge to their dominance and you'll have to fight it out wearing nothing but loincloths.

Alright, the guy just wants an answer.

THey do it to avoid blocking the view of the board from other players.

The loincloth thing is equally plausible.

don't they also do it so the security cameras can (for a split second), record every chip.

i.e, so you don't sneek a few $1 chips in the pile of $100's you've just lost
