Label Durability Report

Postby lwestatbus » Thu Aug 25, 2005 1:51 pm GMT

I'm in the process of creating and applying completely DIY labels for my set of RPT NexGen chips. (http://www.texasholdem-poker.com/forum/t11708/rpt-label-designs-round-2-opinions-please)

I intend to post a complete report when I am finished (almost there) but did want to post an interim report on a durability experiment I ran.

I am using 1" polyester laser lables from OnlineLabels.com. These are advertised as being weatherproof. I took a misaligned sheet of labels, sprayed it with the Krylon matte coating I'm using on all of the labels, and applied labels front and back to two sample chips. I then put one chip in water overnight to soak and, because many of my possessions end up soaked in beer at one point or another, the second label soaked in beer overnight. Labels were printed with an Okidata color laser printer.

The next morning both sets of labels were completely intact. None had come off or even loosened that I could tell and the printing was intact and didn't rub off with either thumb-pad pressure or light fingernail scratching. The test was run immediately after removing the chips from the liquids, while they were still wet.

I was really impressed with this outcome and thought I'd pass it on.

Again, I'm learning a lot from this process and will post a complete report when I'm finished.

BTW, the shipping service from onlinelabels.com is amazingly fast.

Shipping? For pete's sake, they're almost in your backyard! :) If it's anything less than overnight, the horse probably stopped for a long drink of water.

But I will say that they are very good about their shipping, they get my orders to me on the West Coast usually by FedEX 2nd Day or with the vinyl/poly labels that are subcontracted to another vendor, they are usually shipped overnight. The only time that I had to wait more than 5 days was when a shipment of vinyls disappeared, and I received the replacement the next day.
