Line check: Bet the river?
Villain was a complete unknown as I was new to the table. Villain c/c my unimproved cbet and I shut down on the turn. Anyone lead out into the flush turn or set river? Is this a case where I only get called by hands that crush me?

You know this river isn't a 4 flush right? If it was the 9s I'd probably check behind since you usually only get called by a flush on a 4 flush board.
As played bet 2/3 pot for value, he's got a 2 like 5% of the time, flush sometimes and ace/two pair the majority of the time. I'm folding to anything higher than a min-raise.

Definitely bet this river for value. At these stakes, players are rarely checking the turn AND river with strong hands, looking for fancy check-raises. Especially since you checked behind on the turn, it's too big of a risk for them that you would just check the river also.
Similarly, I don't see players calling huge river bets here with bluff-catcher hands. I would bet only half the pot at most and hope villain calls with his marginal hand. If you happen to get raised, then you've lost less money.

I think I'm responding to myself
This hand is much less interesting with a 3 flush/4 straight board, instead of the 4 flush/4 straight board that I thought it was. I'll go ahead and post results and you can flame me for the bad post or the bad play.
I ended up checking the river in this hand because I thought only better hands would call (or raise). I was right (on this hand), but from a value perspective this is maybe -EV.

Actually I totally disagree, bad players do tend to slow play big hands much more often then good players.
That said, I still vbet this river. After checking behind the turn you are called by any A and sometimes even TT-KK kind of hands.
