live ring games vs. tournament

sorry im not quite sure where this topic belongs, but if its in the wrong place just delete or move it

anyways, everytime i play live hold'em with family and friend, we always play tournament style. i plan on going to a casino in the near future and would like some tips/information on ring games. i know they are much different so i dont want to be playing ring games the same way i would be playing tournament. any help would be appreciated

Umm if you haven't played a ring game before, then go to a casino and start playing it for the first time, you'll just be throwing your money away. Try playing a ring game first. Check out: http://www.partypoker.net or

The main thing I would say that is different between tournaments and ring games (im assuming that you mean live tournaments and live ring games) is that its never worth trying to steal the blinds in a ring game. People like to defend their blinds with a vengence. Another thing is, for the most part people are willing to call down with any pair and any draw since they can reload at anytime; whereas in a tourney this just isnt true. I guess to sum it up, people play much much looser and more wild in ring games than they otherwise would in tournaments.

Ummm...this is REALLY not true. In fixed limit games, a lot of your potential hourly earn comes from stealing blinds and therefore it is mandatory that you attempt to do so in the right spots. It doesn't matter that people defend...you need to take advantage of your position when you can. Now, this is not to say that you try and steal EVERY time you have the chance, especially if you find the blinds to defend 100% of the time. But, to say that you should never steal misses the point completely.
