Living without the Internet
Hello friends.
So my friend and I are moving into a house this summer. It's owned by my friend's mom, and it has been unoccupied for the past 10 months. The house is great; there are giant bedrooms, and tons of extra space. The problem we have is that we'll only be living there until the end of August at the latest. I was doing some research on Internet Service Providers, and was a bit shocked to find out how expensive/impossible it is to sign up for such a temporary time frame. Because of this fact, we are really considering living without internet access for the next 4 months.
Clearly I'll be able to survive, but it creates obvious difficulties. Luckily I wont need it for work/school, but it's my current tie to my favorite social network (facebook).
Have any of you tried living without Internet access? This question is directed especially to younger people.
For you old folk, how much have your lives changed from growing up without the internet? How do you plan parties? Or download music? Or message that hot blond about that bottle of wine she offered?
Obviously my poker career will hit a wall. But on the other hand, I will be able to spend a shit load of time reading, working out, making music, and most importantly: meeting people. My girlfriend just broke up with me, and I'm looking for a drastic change in lifestyle, but is this too drastic??
Thoughts????

i had to do a similar thing and found it is actually really positive, however, i did have an internet cafe near by that i could use if i specifically need to check something.
My experience was it was surprisingly difficult, but after a week you don't even notice.

I had a four month forced hiatus from the Internet due to retarded ISP issues when I moved house in 2006. It's really frustrating to start with but after that initial period, you really won't care too much. Provided you can jump on it somewhere else for 10mins every now and then, you will find that that will suffice and almost EVERYTHING you do on the Internet is actually utter crap and a total waste of time.

In the UK you can get Pay as You Go internet access via the 3G mobile networks. I’m not sure if this kind of service is available in Canada or if you’d have the coverage since the population is much more dispersed.
But to be honest I wouldn’t worry about the lack of internet access, unless you have an IT related job it’s unlikely to be important.
The internet is handy but not essential. Most of the time it’s just retarded, e.g. twitter.

Four months? Yeesh. Time to catch up on your book learning and live Poker I guess, and find some decent non-online games. In the meantime, I guess you'll just have to use the phone to keep track of people. Of course, you could go the iPhone route and have a semblance of internet access for basic things, too, I guess.

OK, it's official. I'm truly going to be living, internet-free for the summer. I was bored at work the other day, and wanted to see what the mobile browser looked like on my phone, and was successful in checking my PM's on facebook.
I have an LG Keybo, so the screen is decent sized, and it's easy as hell to type on the keyboard, so I decided to pay an extra $10 monthly to have an unlimited web browser on my phone. This will allow me to keep up with my facebook shenanigans, and e-mail insanity. Otherwise, I can completely avoid the internet trap, and live a rustic and manly lifestyle.
I feel kinda silly for depositing $600 on Full Tilt, only 2 weeks ago... but it can sit there and wait for me while I expand my brain and life, and if I still feel like playing poker come September, it will be there a-waiting.
I'm moving today, so good luck to y'all, and have a great summer!

Isn’t that somewhat of a contradiction? Anyway have a good summer mate.
NB: You could link a computer to the phone or stick that SIM in a mobile modem.

OK, it's a contradiction... I'll admit.
I also just withdrew $600 from my FT account... but there's still the $101 profit I've made from the first 3 sessions (plus RB and bonus)...
I was looking at the cash I'd have to pay towards my credit card, and decided that I'm better off spending it on other things right now. I might deposit more, later, or perhaps I'll squander the $100 and do something different with my time. Oh well. So much for poker :P
