minimum re raise

Postby Northern Hillbilly » Sun Dec 27, 2009 1:26 pm GMT

Well I have been playing poker awhile and pretty sure of the rules . Last night at my weekly game this came into question.

I was sitting with AK and I slow played it limped in from SB checked on the flop flop was AAK. so 3 checks and then CO bet 20 BTN raised 40 to 60 . (BTN is the same guy I have refereed to before thinks he is the god of poker) . So I was next to act and I tried 40 to 100 . When BTN started protesting saying I had to raise 60 minimum. I explained the initial bet was 20 he raised it 40 to 60 so my raise only had to be 40 the same amount as his raise. Well he kept arguing and the fish who play all think he knows everything about poker as well sided with him. So I acted a little pissed and threw all my chips in the middle :D and raised it to 735 got 2 callers both the btn and CO had KQ and K10o hahahha. (dream spot)

Anyways the minimum re raise just has to be = to or more then the initial raise not = to the current bet right ? the raise being 40 the bet being 60 , or was I wrong here ?

Again, you were right. Please punch the 'god of poker' in the face next time you see him and tell him I say hi.

The way to explain it to him was probably to look at a limit game setting. If we're playing 10/20 and on the river someone bets 20, if the next raises making it 20 more, the next guy doesn't have to make it 80 to re-raise, he raises 20 more which is the same as the last raise. It sounds like this guy won't be told though so maybe don't waste you breath and just smile and take his chips.

he thinks he is the god of poker but I am better then him but i think he would kick my ass in a fist fight lol So I will just keep taking his chips and not punch him in the face . More enjoyment and less pain for me that way

The minimum raise is the size of the last raise. The mistake comes from the difference between limit and no-limit poker. Limit players always double the bet because it is fixed limit poker.
