Minimum Recommended Buy-in?

Postby Rawnoc » Mon Dec 29, 2003 11:01 pm GMT

For stud poker, what is "the textbook" minimum buyin?

I think I've heard 100 times the minimum bet (i.e. - 5/10 stud, $500 minimum buyin to "play it right"), and I think I've heard 100 times the maximum too.

What does the book say?

I do remember on the movie Rounders for Texas Hold 'Em it being said $50,000 or $60,000 was needed to "play right in that game" for 300/600 which is about 100 times the maximum, but that's just a movie.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Also, would these "textbook minimum guidelines" be different between Texas Hold 'Em, 7 Card Stud, and 5 Card Stud?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Wow, can't believe this never got a reply. I know this has been gone over many times, but I still get confused on it. I'm asking directly about Texas Hold'em. What's the minimum buy-in and what's the minimum you should have with you. In other words. If I'm playing 10,20 for example, I've heard that you want 1K with you, but how much do you buy in for? Anyone who can break this down? Thanks.

A healthy bankroll is all it takes.

In a limit game...a proper bankroll is all it takes to make a profit....
....about 300 big bets and never more than 10% of your entire bankroll!
