Moderation
Hi ,
This is not a complain but more a remark.
i feel this board could be tighter moderate .
We see a lot of spamers , members who offer illegal software or ebooks etc.. I feel those topic should be deleted asap and often members should be banned or put on a temp. time out or something...
I'm involved in another forum (music related) where I'm a mod. We are known as the tightest music forum around - and as such our forum is spam free and fun for users.
What we do in our forum, is give members mod's privilege that allow them to move topic's to the trash, suggest topic's or members that should be looked at etc...
All in all, I find this forum very useful and fun to hung in...
Thanks
Danny

Keep in mind that there is also a lot of spam threads that you DON'T see because they get removed before most people see them. Spammers are summarily banned as soon as one of us notices them.

I don't doubt this, but let's not compare apples to oranges. The great majority of the spam we get here is poker specific, so it's not something a music form would generally have to deal with. Also, because anyone can access referral codes i would guess that the number of people that spam this forum is much greater.

Good idea in a perfect world, but giving everyone mod powers is unworkable here i'm afraid. What would stop someone who is pissed off at another member from deleting/altering their posts? Suggestions are always welcome and can either be posted or sent to one of us via PM. If you have concerns about another members behavior, such concerns can be PM'd to a mod or admin as well.

[forumfight] Unless that forum is known as the Rhombus, I disagree [/forumfight]

There's far more spam hitting these forums than you've seen.... lol. You have to remember that thp is googles #1 search result for texas holdem, so we attract a massive amount of spam. It's all deleted/removed as its seen.
Soon, phpbb will be releasing the new version of the forum scripts which I understand we'll be upgrading to: only signifagance here is that I'm not going to write my antio-spam mods for this version because its very possible I'ld only have to write it again for those new scripts. No big big deal, but just wasted time.

I've been without Internet at home for 13 weeks now so I haven't been able to moderate much at all. Since I am UK based, I quite often shitcan spam that hits at a time when the US moderators are not online so things might have been sitting about a bit lately when they would normally have been removed. As soon as I am back, I'll be on the case properly and you won't see spam at all................

Just an update to the spam issue...
I went ahead and started developing a spam uber mod...
It running 'quietly' on thpblog right now, however it is not filtering anything yet. It's simply cataloging for my review. If after a week or so, all appears well I'll move to set it loose on both forum locations.
Updated: see post below.

I think you guys do a tremendous job and can't imagine how much time you invest in this forum. Both the mods and admins here are top-notch in my opinion. Sure you miss a few, but if you didn't, we wouldn't get a chance to flame a spammer. I can't speak for everyone, but I know a few of us who, deep-down, really enjoy this anger-outlet. Keep up the good work, guys.

Update.
The spam mod I was writing earlier.... I decided that I didn't like it. At all. Worked well but for a longer term performance price which to me means it didnt deserve the 'uber' title. Not up to par with my typical work so I sat down yesterday here and reapproached and rewrote the entire mod...
Final product definitely worthy of being called an uber mod lol. I'll get on Adam tomorrow for permission to set the beast loose on both thpblog and th-p.
Very simple for end users (mods/admins). I'll write up a how-to to those users elsewhere, although its all self explanatory. For posters: if you submit a post with a link in it (to a domain not already preapproved), you'll be confronted with a terms reminder and captcha validation to continue with submission. These post are automaticly flagged for admin/mod review. Conditions have been set to assume/exempt 'safe' posters from filtering.... otherwise the post content is replaced with a 'pending approval' message until it has been reviewed.
This should all but eliminate any 'spam' from falling onto the forum pages.
