My first win!
I just completed my 3rd tourny. This time I did a $20 buy in Limit Game with 162 people. It's 6:00am and I just won it. I went into the final table low on chips (about 11,000) Two guys had 70,000, the closest to me was around 20,000. I won $972 which ain't a bad nights work. My heart is still pounding.
There's no explanation for it, except the research I did here on this site and Poker-Forum. Thanks to everyone who contributes here. I'm offically hooked for life on this game.
What an absulute rush.
Goodnight,
^Hawk^

Help me out here
Guys,
I was excited and made the mistake of telling my wife about my win. Right away she wants me to withdraw most of it and spend it on some stuff we need. She's looking at this as I was lucky to win, we never win anything so we should quit while we're ahead. I'm trying to explain to her that this isn't like a slot machine. Poker takes skill, and while I'm no master, I obviously have a strong concept for the game. I didn't get that win because I was saved by any rivers. I had the best hand after the flops and won. I play very tight and aggresive, and throw some calculated medium plays in there just to keep the table guessing.
I think I should use the money to increase my bankroll. Get the hell out of the $5/10 SnG's I'd lke to play in some satelite tourny's and try to get in the money on some bigger tourny's. Plus move up to the $20/30 SnG's.
So who do you all think is right? Am I chasing a pipe dream?
Thanks for your opinions,
^Hawk^
PS No replys about dumping the wife...I already consdiered that and that would end up cost me way to much. I'd end up at the micro limit tables! LOL!

I would compromise. Take some out and leave some in. . . if you are playing poker to make money, and you need money, you should spend some money, and playing with support of the wife for the rest of your career could be worth taking your roll building a little slower. At least take out what ever you deposited to begin with . . . then you're on winnings, right?

Well, what's done is done. Mindgame made a comment in an earlier post of poker winnings and normal money being two seperate pockets. That's a pretty good way to look at it. As long as you give your significant other what they want, cash wise, it doesn't matter which pocket it comes from. Do like Johnny said and compromise. $500 of "found" money as she see's it is better than nothing, and you're going to need the other amount to build a bankroll. Next time, just say that you "did well" tonight.

arghhh @ classic mistake,
never EVER tell your woman how much money you have, tell them you got some and keep them guessing as to how much, you learned the hard way here but as these guys said, a compromise should work.
If she gets some now, and thinks she has the possibility of getting more in future she should be happy?
As somones sig says, in life, women are the rake man, they are the damn rake!
Next time you win a nice amount, tell your friends, they wont expect you to give them most of it !

LOL Nicth:
But I think that I have ya beat. My poker winnings thus far have gone to the following:
1. A new bathroom (which she wanted)
2. A Laptop computer (For her of course)
3. A diamond necklace (this one is obvious)
Now All I have to do is rack up one more big win and I can pay for that new kitchen!!!
Ah Well, At least I get to keep playing.
