My Guts lost me a hand...
Hi guys!
On Monday I played my first live-tourney and the hand that changed everything was a bad decision which I made...
About 100 People 20€+4 26 Players left
The blinds were 500/1000 with 75 Ante.
I had like 12.000 in the small blind
A
6
Everybody folds to the button (about 60.000). He limps in.
I played the whole night very thight, knowing that my skills are not that developed, so I tried to concentrate on the good cards. Half an hour before I was "cought" bluff-stealing. flopped 2 pairs and called the all-in from pocket overpair and won, the hand was 74s. But that was the only bluff at that night.
I decided to make a move and put 3000 in.
Big Blind folds (big stack).
Button calls after some thinking
Flop comes 3
A
Q
I check
Big Blind bets 1000
I think a bit, that terrible feeling comes up in my stomach and call
Turn comes 2
I check
Big Blind puts me all-in
I thought on my move several minutes and I was sure he limped and called with A and a small card. I could not get the feeling away that my high pair wasnt good enough, so I folded.
I am aware that this hand was played very poor by me, and I guess that if i would have played online, I wouldnt have thougt a minute about laying down the hand, but here it was different here. Probably the fact that I was about to go home and all those faces looking at me changed things a bit, but the real thing was, that I was sure he flopped 2 pair.
So finally my question is: How can you control those things and keep your head clear in a situation like that, because now I think everything but a call would be a mistake...
but now is a little too late :D
thanks

I don’t think this is your problem. Read up on a poker term know as M.
Basically in a situation where there’s that much in the pot preflop compared to your stack you shouldn’t mess around with 3xBB raises.
Push or fold (or in this case you have the odds for a cheap call if you don't think the BB will raise), the 3000 raise had very little fold equity and worse it increased the pot so that any later push would offer better odds to a caller.

I think your problem came up front. 3K into a opt of that size isn't making a move, it's really only a pot-sized bet. I can't believe it took the 60,000 guy any time at all to call another 2.
If, in fact, you did have a tight reputation, pushing there should've picked up the blinds and antes, which is what you want. You don't necessarily want action with that hand.
Given that that didn't happen, a check-raise push or straight push post-flop is in order. True you have no kicker, but the opponent hasn't really shown a bunch of strength either. KQ or QJ I think.
But I see your thinking with A-small; if true, he's likely to have hit two pair on you. Needed to push him out sooner.

Agreed.
But on a side note, you may want to edit the post. I think that you wrote Big blind instead of dealer a few times.
