I'm going to a family game in a few hours, and I need to know what do you do when say the board is Ah3h4h9d6c and one player has a King of hearts (plus another heart) and another player has a queen of hearts (plus another heart). I thought that you make the best 5 card hand, which is an Ace of hearts, therefore it's a split pot between the two players. Is that right?

Also, what about straights. Say it's J 10 9 8 and two players old one seven in their hand. Split pot?

Thanks everyone, I'm sure this question has been asked a thousand times, but I don't have time to search for it. Gotta do some last minute x-mas shoppin.

You use the best 5 cards. The person with the Kh would win as he has they higher kicker. K>Q.. AK flush > AQ flush

Yes, the players would split the pot if they both had a 7.

Keep it simple. The best '5' cards win.

its all about breaking ties. kickers break ties for under
5 card hands, for straights, its the highest card, if the
same, its a tie. for a flush, if highest card is the same,
goto next. in a 5 card stud or draw game, it may be,
and i stress may be a tie for 2 ace high flushes, but i know
that if a player holds a higher flush card in their hole, in holdem
they win. even if the highest flush card was on the table,
NOW,,,,,if all the highest flush cards are on the table,,,,!!!
and no one can improfve the flush on the board, then it
is a tie. even if you have a flush card.,, so if A K 10 8 7 hearts
were on the board, and you have 23h and other has 45h, it
is split because you share the highest possible flush. if one
of the players held the 9h, they would win, cause it would
break the tie within the flush!!! ok? kinda sporadic, but thats
whats what. its the best 5card hand YOU can make. If the
best 5 card hand is on the table, splitsville.
