1/ Read the pages with links on the left. They talk about a lot of important aspects of the game. That should be a start.

QTF...Poker is one of the wildest rides in life. We poker players often ride emotional roller coasters that could make a manic depressant feel sane...
Watch the professional tournaments on TV sometime and see the roller coaster these people ride. Watch last years WSOP and you'll see players blattantly happy as well as some who are emotionally crushed. All within a matter of hours or days from each other.
Learn all you can before you enter into this crazy game. It's not only about your two cards. And whatever you do...don't forget to have fun playing it...or you'll never enjoy the true game.
