Neteller

Postby HalfSugar » Mon Mar 24, 2008 9:55 am GMT

I recently tried to use Neteller but it came up with a message telling me that I needed to upgrade my account because I had gone over my lifetime transaction in/out limit of $3,500 or something.

I started the steps to upgrade my account but the last one is to send them an email with colour scans attached which show my passport/drivers licence and a recent utility bill.

Given how insecure emails are and how rampant identity theft is, this struck me as a really shitty idea. I contacted support but they were pretty beligerent and pretty much said I had to do it or I was screwed.

Has anyone else done this? I guess it is more likely to be OK than not OK but if some idiot with an IQ of 6 who works in their ID verification department stores my email attachments foolishly at their end, there is nothing to stop some unscrupulous bastard abusing my details.

yeah, done this years ago...
When I tried to open a new account after moving countries it was so hard to do all this crap again.
In the end, after a long talk with support they simply told me to reactivate my old account and change the details.

Have been an happy costumer since.

I did this not too long ago ( like 6 months ) but what I did was to paint over the passport number and driver license number. So I hope it would not be as easy to abuse. ( I might have deletet more, but dont remember )
