NL100 - Flopped straight on FD board with aggression

Postby LeeG » Sun Jul 27, 2008 7:31 pm GMT

Been at table for about 60 hands. UTG raise was typical for play but not indicative of anything other than 'I intend to play the hand'. UTG has shown down everything from SC and small pp's on up from UTG. Hero has been on a rush, winning the previous 4 hands and showing down good cards on 3 of them. (AK, TT, and JJ). All players have a VPIP of about 25.

Full Tilt Poker
No Limit Holdem Ring game
Blinds: $0.50/$1
6 players

Stack sizes:
UTG: $291.45
Hero: $181.40
CO: $194.85
Button: $62.60
SB: $128.15
BB: $100

Pre-flop: (6 players) Hero is UTG+1 with Q♠ T♦
UTG raises to $3.5, Hero calls, 2 folds, SB calls, BB folds.

Flop: J♥ 9♣ 8♥ ($11.5, 3 players)
SB bets $10, UTG raises to $31,
Hero?

reraise to $91. you have the best hand. set/2pair maybe even AJ should give you action and heart draws should fold here or fold turn if they miss.

I would definitely 3-bet, probably about a pot-sized raise, with the intent to get all-in on the turn. A pot-size raise does not give them odds to draw to anything, and sets up a turn push perfectly. A set, two pair, lower straight, or even a big flush draw will probably (incorrectly) push over you anyway.

I wasn't sure how exactly to play this, so I just pushed it all in. Not sure if SB would have come along anyway.

Hero raises to $177.90, and is all in
1 players fold.
UTG calls [$146.90] Hero shows :
Q♠ 10♦
UTG shows :
8♣ 8♠
Total folds this street: 1
Potsize: $377.3
Turn:
4♦
Potsize: $377.3
River:
2♦
Hero shows a straight, Queen high
UTG shows three of a kind, Eights Hero wins the pot ($374.30) with a straight, Queen high
