With this method,

That's good to hear. Seems like real clay would soak up liquids, at least a little. I'm engineer though.

They do soak it up...that's why you only do this nutty stuff with real clay. On the otherhand...they are more of a ceramic material than 'clay'...so they are very stable. Imagine soaking a porous (spelling?) rock in water or oil. It's still a rock....maybe a bit prettier...but still a rock. No swelling or shape-changing.
That said, in my example on the site, the whole 'soak them in oil' process I refere to is usually less than 5 minutes....depending on how fast you're working. It's really a non-issue.
