One book...

Postby CommonTony » Sun Feb 01, 2009 12:00 pm GMT

Hypothetically, you have a friend. He has been playing NLHE at very low stakes for around a year, but has had very good returns and wants to take his play up to the next level. Which one book would you reccommend he reads?

If he plays live, I would recommend Professional No-Limit Hold'em. Actually, I would probably recommend that book for live or online. It's probably the best book I've read in the last three years.

I'd probably agree with Diamond Cutter and go for Professional No Limit Hold'em. Rather than showing you how to play particular hands (a la Harrington) it shows you how to think about hands in general and covers important areas only hinted at in other books. I'd never really thought about pot control and commitment until I'd read PNLHE.

Having said all that the Harrington books are good as well (both tournament and cash series) but take a different approach that I don't think has as much long term benefit.
