Listen to music, 5 table, IRC, surf the web/check emails.
I have been trying to cut stuff out and concentrate, but if I am honest the 8/16 limit games don't really give me many difficult decisions so I tend to drift off and do other stuff if I am not involved in a hand.

I'm a natural multi-tasker so I find myself doing any number of things while playing. I play in my office at one of the desks, depeding on which computer the hubby's on, and also may be doing any or all of the following:
*Reading my book (currently Quantum Physics by Florian Scheck, The Iliad and The Odyssey by Homer and The Library of Greek Mythology by Apollodorus - usually the latter of the three when I'm playing since it's a bit lighter)
*Watching TV (usually a ballgame or toons)
*Working on the short story I'm writing
*Cooking dinner (this one is a real workout since I have to run from room to room between hands)
*Folding laundry
*Copying my recipes into my cooking database
*Chatting with the hubby and/or watching his tourneys if he's playing
*Playing with my dog (NO, not that way!)
*Listening to music
You know, it's really no wonder that I don't win much online. I do get a lot of other things done while I'm playing though.

I bought a second monitor for video editing convenience and I find it is really nice to have a distraction - like an episode of television or a slow moving video game on the other monitor. I find I get forgetful of one activity or the other unless I can spread them all out in front of me.

Well, I recently moved to a new house and decided to get an "office" corner. I have my own table, with a decent office chair and with my back to the TV.
The TV is still on about 50% of the time I play poker, but its really just a formality.
Even playing just 4 tables (used to play 16) and having no other distraction, I still miss some hands and still get confused in some hands (ie am not sure if I caled PF or raise or what - sometimes)
Well, maybe the fact that I smoke my head out helps

I moved into my house over 3 years ago and my office table and chair still haven’t made it out of my living room and up to the office

Moon_Child wrote:am i the only person that gets nervous for the first 15 minutes when i sit at a poker table online? i usually spend like 5 minutes trying to open up 4 short handed tables. in the beginning i'm pretty nervous. not sure why tho... after 15 minutes i would settle down and play my best game for a hour and a bit more. that is... if i don't go on tilt from getting sucked out.
usually after the first hour, i start to lose focus as well... i can't stare at the monitor for too long cuz it hurts my eyes since i'm always staring at the computer or things. i don't think i've ever exceed 2 hours of play. even after the first hour i would watch tv and not pay attention too much. i wish i had a laptop, but that would be next year when the school makes me purchase one for the my program that i am in.
then i can just relax on the coach and be comfortable, play a bit more than 2 hours and maybe i'll enter a few MTTs.
I can relate. My nervous twinge hits as im double clicking my desktop icon to launch the poker client. As soon as a i play a few hands ive forgotten about it. Its actually comforting to know I must take it seriously enough to get a bit nervous. My big fear is getting sloppy and losing progress, like others fear im sure.
